Moderation Guidelines

Last updated: March 1, 2026

1. Purpose of Moderation

ManagerSignal's moderation process exists to ensure that all published data is structured, factual, and free from identifying information. Moderation is not censorship. It is quality control that protects both team members and employers while maintaining the integrity of our analytics.

2. What Gets Moderated

Every review submitted to ManagerSignal passes through our moderation pipeline. Moderators review submissions for: personally identifiable information (names, specific dates, locations that could identify individuals); inflammatory, defamatory, or emotionally charged language; unverifiable claims or allegations; content that could pose legal risks to the platform or its users; spam, duplicates, or clearly fabricated reviews.

3. Moderation Actions

Moderators may take the following actions: (a) Approve: the review meets all quality standards; (b) Edit: identifying information or inflammatory language is replaced with neutral alternatives while preserving factual substance; (c) Return: the review is sent back to the submitter with guidance on corrections needed; (d) Remove: the review does not meet minimum quality standards and cannot be corrected.

4. Moderation Standards

Our moderation team follows documented, auditable standards: Language must be factual and neutral. Opinions are accepted when framed as personal experience, not universal statements. Claims must be based on first-hand experience working under the manager in question. No hearsay or second-hand accounts. Descriptions must be specific enough to be actionable but general enough to protect anonymity. Emotional intensity is moderated to maintain professional, editorial tone.

5. Moderator Training

ManagerSignal moderators receive training in: structured data quality standards and neutrality principles; bias detection and neutral language standards; data privacy and anonymization techniques; structured data quality assessment. We review moderator decisions periodically to support consistency.

6. Appeals Process

If a review is edited or removed, the submitter may request a review of that decision. Appeals are handled by a senior moderation team member who was not involved in the original decision. Appeal decisions are final. We aim to communicate outcomes within 5 business days.

7. Transparency Reporting

ManagerSignal intends to publish periodic moderation transparency reports detailing: total reviews submitted; reviews approved, edited, returned, and removed; most common moderation reasons; average moderation turnaround time. When available, these reports will be published on our Insights page.

8. Employer Disputes

Employers who believe published aggregate data contains inaccuracies may submit a formal dispute. Our team reviews the underlying moderated data and aims to respond within 10 business days. Individual review content is not disclosed during this process.
